Hot Spiked Apple Cider

Hot apple cider is one of those things that only occurs during specific seasons like Peeps during Easter or the gym after New Years Eve. For a new twist on a holiday favorite try this Hot Rum-Spiked Apple Cider recipe. Here’s what you will need:

Spiced Rum

½ Gallon Organic Apple Cider

1 Orange peel

1 teaspoon whole Cloves

3 Cinnamon Sticks (3 inch)

Nutmeg

Combine apple cider, orange rinds, cloves, and a dash of nutmeg in a large pot. Place the pot over moderate heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until the cider is very hot but not boiling. If you’d like to keep it warm for the entirety of the night heat it up in a slow-cooker and leave it on.

Pour a shot of spiced rum into a large mug and fill with strained hot apple cider. Don’t make the mistake of heating the spiced rum with the apple cider as this will cook off some of the alcohol.

Garnish with extra cinnamon sticks and/or orange slice.
